Morning Routine for a Successful Day

Written by Yolanda Vosloo

Start Strong to Finish Strong (Morning Routine for a Successful Day)

What does your morning routine look like?  Do you grab your phone as soon as you open your eyes and immediately check your Facebook or email?

Yup!!!  Sounds all too familiar.

Then you lie in bed scrolling through all the Facebook posts, some make you smile, some make you angry and some are just letting you know what your “friends” were up to. An hour later and you are still stuck in “Facebook land” where it feels like time is standing still…

You jump out of bed because you realise you are going to be late… you wiz through the shower, throw on an outfit, slap some makeup on, quickly dry your hair and run out the door without having breakfast. Make it just in time for the train and … phew … for the next 30 minutes or so you can return to facebook land…

Get to the point already

Okay, so you are not one of “those people”… You are serious about your life, your business, you are creating a life you love and want to know what I have to say about a morning routine to ensure a successful day. Great, here is my take on it.

First things first

The way you start your day will determine how your entire day will go. If you start off in a rush and feeling like you have to catch up, your whole day will feel like that. So, the alarm has gone off and naturally your grab the phone to turn the alarm off. My advice is hit snooze … wait – not to sleep further… the next 9 minutes are crucial. This is where you are setting the tone for your day. The next 9 minutes are going to change your life.

Step 1: Place the phone back on the nightstand.

Step 2: Close your eyes and take 5 deep slow breaths. Breathe in gratitude and energy and breath out tiredness.

Step 3: Keep your eyes closed, SMILE!  Say out loud 5 things you are grateful for. (Keep this in mind: If you wake up tomorrow with only the things you are grateful for today, would you be okay?) If you have more than 5 – GREAT!!  but don’t spend the rest of your 9 minutes on this.

Step 4: If you have your goals written down, read them. If you have them in your head, say them to yourself.

Step 5: Visualise your goals as if they have happened and are current. Remember to smile. If achieving your goals don’t automatically make you smile, they are not exciting enough and will not inspire you to jump out of bed and jump into action.

Your snoozed alarm will let you know when your 9 minutes are up.

Get up and have a shower. Whaaaat … no facebook???

Yup, that is right, no facebook, no email, no Snapchat, no Twitter, no anything that will take your mind off your goals and off your visualisation.

Keep visualising while you are in the shower and if you have written out affirmations, the shower is my favourite place to recite my affirmations. Play your favourite motivation/inspirational song and sing along out loud while you shower and keep that picture of your desired lifestyle in your head.
